Rugby Round-Up Press Release - 20 Dec 07

It is good to report that the new developers are currently running ahead of the new website/systems build and hope to have the site ready for launch earlier than forecasted on the 22 January!

I am disappointed to have to tell you that Media 3 (old developers) have not yielded up to us clubs registration details, which is totally out of order, bloody minded, and completely disruptive to all our efforts to bring the new website into life quickly.

This regretfully means that we shall have to register all clubs yet again. However, the new registration system is now being finalised and is 200% better than the previous one, and easier to deal with for everyone. This time however, it is our view that when registered all the services should then be ready for your use – Not register and then wait again!

This time when registered you will be able to immediately administer everything from uploading match stats, Match reports & photos, to Player profiles + Photos + more yet to be unveiled. I am confident that we shall be again in touch with all clubs early in the New Year to implement this system and get the match/player stats back up to date quickly

I am only too aware that clubs have lost the vital RFU funding this season. We shall bring you all new funding streams that will, without hardly any work at all, restore that capital + much more. There will be no reason why any registered club cannot easily establish an annual financial stream of around 7 to 10K with our new systems.

Match Stats – Please guys continue to keep your match stats safe. If anyone has a problem with uploading these shortly then of course we shall assist in every way to get your players up to date again. You will have noticed that the National levels are fully back up to date thanks to the clubs support here we have 100% stats loaded into the system again, and have been complimented on the accuracy of those stats compared to other sources which are clearly wrong in many areas! – Only Round-Up gets it totally right guys!

On the business front I am delighted to inform you all that yet another Raptor League sponsor will be launched shortly bringing the value of winning this competition to an even higher level. We are also in discussion with potential big brand companies who see the potential of being a part of our special area of the game. Naturally, like everything we do this must have a clubs benefit attached to them joining us

Letter from Mr Alan Coster

I have been reading the club history and I have a few additions. the 2nd XVs were playing at stoke lodge the time I joined the club in 1950..

in the mid 1950 s we moved to Hanham folk centre ground. the ground was good but washing facilities were 4 bungalow baths so it was a question of hands and face first, feet and legs after. very basic!

late 50s,most of the lads that had fought in the war left the club at the same time, this left us desperate for players, in fact after a general meeting, the club disbanded. in the week that  followed, Les Fynne secretary of Dings gave me a list of players who might be interested in joining us only one came Terry Buckingham, Spud Murphy sports writer in the Pink-Un, gave me a few names, University student Alan Lill, old players of Horfield athletic John Sullivan and Terry Derby, all agreed to join us.

We decided to forge on , missing just one fixture. We started with a win over old Patchwegians 8-5 and have never looked back.
In the early 1960s we bought castle farm chapel from Broadmead radio for £150, putting in a boiler, bath, toilets and soakaway,  re-roofing the chapel and toilets, erecting partitions for changing facilities. The Gough brothers owned the ground opposite which we rented, shortly after we had 2 pitches  and were running a 3rd XVs team. After a few years the fields were sold for building ,so we then played on pitches below
Hanham hills. we eventually sold the chapel when a compulsory purchase order was
placed on it for £7,800, which enabled the club to build the clubhouse at Duncombe lane. I expect some of the other lads can give a clearer picture from then on.
If by any chance you are mentioning names in your history, please
mention Fred Pascoe he was treasurer 27 years and general dogs body a
lot longer.

All the Best

Mr Alan Coster
